Test Code ACTA Acetaminophen Level

Important Note

Acetaminophen specimens should not be drawn earlier than four hours after ingestion. If the time of ingestion is not known, two or more blood samples taken at two three-hour intervals may be used to estimate acetaminophen half-life and assess toxicity.

Specimen Required

Lithium Heparin Plasma Separator Tube (GREEN) or

Serum Separator Tube SST (YELLOW)

Specimen Handling and Stability

Handle and store specimens in stoppered containers to avoid contamination and evaporation.

 

Centrifuge specimens to remove the plasma/serum from the cellular material within 5 days of collection.

*  Refrigerated: 14 days

*  Frozen: 45 days
