Test Code AST Aspartate Aminotransferase (AST)

Important Note

Avoid agitation or mixing of plasma samples after centrifugation. Re-suspension of platelets into previously centrifuged plasma may lead to artificially elevated AST results.

Specimen Required

Lithium Heparin Plasma Separator Tube (GREEN) or

Serum Separator Tube SST (YELLOW)

Specimen Handling and Stability

Handle and store specimens in stoppered containers to avoid contamination and evaporation.

 

Centrifuge specimens to remove the plasma/serum from the cellular material within 3 days of collection.

*  Room Temperature: 3 days

*  Refrigerated: 7 days

*  Frozen: 90 days
