Specimen Type: endocervical, vaginal and male urethral swabs, urine, & ThinPrep specimens

 

*  Urine: for the most accurate results, specimen must be an initial stream urine specimen (dirty urine). 

   Catheterized urine specimens are not acceptable for testing.

1. Endocervial & Urethral swabs: Aptima Unisex Swab Specimen Collection Kit (Purple)

2. Vaginal swab: Aptima Vaginal Swab Specimen Collection Kit (Orange)

3. Urine: Sterile container

4. ThinPrep specimen: Specimen will be transferred from the ThinPrep vial to the proper tube in the laboratory

Special Instructions

First-catch urine specimens should be collected in a clean preservative-free container. The patient should not have urinated for at least 1 hour and should not cleanse the genital area prior to collection.

 

Swabs in specimen transport media (Aptima Tubes) are stable at 2 - 30°C for up to 60 days.

Urine specimens must be transferred to the proper specimen transport tube within 24 hours. Preserved specimens are then stable at 2 - 30°C for up to 30 days.

 

This assay is not intended for the evaluation of suspected sexual abuse or for other medico-legal indications. Assay performance has also not been evaluated in adolescents less than 14 years of age.
