Special Instructions

If the specimen cannot be delivered to the laboratory within 1 hour it should be refrigerated to decrease overgrowth with contaminating organisms.

Turn-around Time

Days Performed: Monday through Sunday

 

Times Performed:

KOH Prep: All shifts, 24 hours a day

Set Up: All shifts, 24 hours a day

Cultures: Media is read once per week on Day Shift (0600 - 1430)

 

Turn-around Time:

KOH Prep: 1 hour, specimens are processed as soon as they arrive

* Cultures:

   *  Positive cultures are reported as soon as an organism is detected

   *  Negative cultures will be final at 4 weeks; preliminary reports are filed weekly starting at day 7
