Important Note

The 14 high-risk HPV types detected by the assay include: 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, 66, and 68.

All positive specimens will automatically reflex for high-risk types 16 & 18/45 genotype testing.

Specimen Type: ThinPrep cervical specimens

 

Container / Tube: Prior to cytology processing, 1 mL of ThinPrep liquid must be transferred to an Aptima Specimen Transfer tube (green)

Testing Schedule

Days Performed: Monday (if volumes sufficient), Wednesday, & Friday

 

Times Performed: Day Shift only (0600 - 1430)

 

Turn-around Time:

HPV: Specimen run time is approximately 4 hours

HPV Genotypes: Only performed on Mondays due to very low volumes - run time of 4 hours

Special Instructions

Transport the ThinPrep liquid cytology specimens at 2 - 30°C.

 

Specimens should be transferred to an Aptima Specimen Transfer tube within 105 days of collection. Prior to transfer, ThinPrep specimens should be stored at 2 - 30°C, with no more than 30 days at temperatures above 8°C.

 

Transferred specimens may be stored at 2 - 30°C for up to 60 days.
