Specimen Handling and Stability

Handle and store specimens in stoppered containers to avoid contamination and evaporation.

 

Centrifuge specimens to remove the plasma from the cellular material within 15 minutes of collection.

Special Instructions

Specimens must be collected in tubes that are at least half full. Small volumes can result in negative biases.

 

Venous specimens should be obtained without the use of a tourniquet or immediately after the tourniquet is applied.

 

Do not stick the collection tube directly in the ice, it must be kept dry. The laboratory analyzer cannot read wet barcodes.
