Specimen Required

Specimen Type: fresh or frozen lung tissue, pleural fluid, bronchial washings, trans-tracheal aspirates, chest drainage, BAL, or sputum.

*  Minimum of 1 mL of specimen required

 

Container / Tube: Sterile, leak-proof container

87278: Infectious agent antigen detection by immunofluorescence, Legionella

87077: Culture, bacterial, aerobic isolate identification

Testing Schedule

Specimens are transported to the Montana Public Health Laboratory in Helena Monday thru Friday

 

Days Performed: Monday through Friday

Turn-around Time:

*  Direct Fluorescent Antibody (DFA) test is performed each working day

*  Cultures are monitored for 14 working days before reporting as negative
