Collect specimens as soon after the rash as possible. Detection is optimum with a collection on day one through three of rash onset.

Specimen Type: Throat, nasopharyngeal, nasal Dacron swab, or urine (50 mL minimum)

 

Container / Tube: viral transport media (swabs) or sterile container (urine)

Testing Schedule

Specimens are transported to the Montana Public Health Laboratory in Helena Monday thru Friday prior to testing

 

Days Performed: Monday through Friday

Turn-around Time: 1 to 2 working days

Transport Temperature: 2 - 8°C if within 24 hours or freeze at -70°C
