Special Instructions
Urine held at room temperature for greater than 30 minutes will support the growth of both pathogens and contaminants, leading to potentially inaccurate colony counts. Specimen must be refrigerated if culture processing is delayed more than 1 hour after collection. Refrigerated urine is stable for 24 hours.
Testing Schedule
Days Performed: Monday through Sunday
Times Performed:
* Set up: All shifts, 24 hours a day
* Cultures: Read on Day Shift only (0600 - 1430)
Turn-around Time:
* Positive cultures are reported as soon as an organism is detected
* Negative, Non-significant, or Contaminated cultures will be final at 2 days; a preliminary report is filed within 24 hours
