87081: Culture, presumptive pathogenic organisms; screening only

Specimens must be processed as soon as possible, DO NOT refrigerate

Days Performed: Monday through Sunday

Times Performed:

* Set Up / Gram Stain: All shifts, 24 hours a day

* Cultures: Read on Day Shift only (0600 - 1430)

Turn-around Time:

* Gram Stain: 1 - 2 hours, may be longer depending upon the time of day, workload and staffing

* Cultures:

* Positive cultures are reported as soon as Neisseria gonorrhoeae is detected

* Negative or normal cultures will be final at 3 days; preliminary reports are filed daily
