Test Code LATA Group A Streptococcus Screen (Streptococcus pyogenes) by Rapid Immunoassay
Specimen Required
Specimen Type: Throat (posterior pharynx, tonsils & other inflamed areas)
* Avoid touching the tongue, cheeks, and teeth
Container / Tube: RED double Liquid Stuart Culturette swab
* Both swabs in the Culturette must be included, one will be utilized for rapid testing and the second for reflex culturing of negative specimens.

Testing Schedule
Days Performed: Monday through Sunday
Times Performed:
* Rapid Strep: All shifts, 24 hours a day
* Cultures: Set up on all shifts, read on Day Shift only (0600 - 1430)
Turn-around Time:
* Rapid Strep: 5 minute run time
* Cultures:
* Positive cultures will be resulted as soon as a beta strep is detected
* Negative cultures will be final after 2 days
Special Instructions
Testing should be performed immediately after the specimen has been collected. Specimens are stable for up to 8 hours at room temperature or 72 hours at 2 - 8°C.
