Test Code MRSA MRSA Screen, Nares (PCR)

Important Note

This assay is for a nares screen only. It cannot be used to test for MRSA in wounds or fluids.

Specimen Required

Specimen Type: Bilateral nares

*  No other sources are acceptable for the PCR MRSA screen

 

Container / Tube: Liquid Stuart single swabs (WHITE TOP) or double swabs (RED TOP)

*  Swabs containing gel transport will be rejected

Special Instructions

Specimens can be stored at room temperature for up to 48 hours or 2 - 8°C for up to 5 days prior to testing.

Testing Schedule

Days Performed: Monday through Sunday

Times Performed: Day Shift only (0600 - 1430)

Turn-around Time: Specimens are batch tested twice per day at 0700 and 1200

*  Run time is approximately 2.5 hours
