Important Note

This assay is for the pre-surgical testing of methicillin-resistant (MRSA) and methicillin-sensitive (MSSA) Staphylococcus aureus

Specimen Type: Bilateral nares

* No other sources are acceptable for the MRSA/MSSA PCR screen

Container / Tube: Liquid Stuart single swabs (WHITE TOP) or double swabs (RED TOP)

* Swabs containing gel transport will be rejected

Specimens can be stored at room temperature for up to 48 hours or at 2 - 8°C for up to 5 days prior to testing.

Days Performed: Monday through Sunday

Times Performed:

* Routine: Day Shift only (0600 - 1430)

* STAT: All shifts, 24 hours a day

Turn-around Time:

* Routine: Specimens are batch tested twice per day at 0700 and 1200 (2.5 hour run time)

* STAT: Run as they arrive, 90 minutes
