Container / Tube: WHITE Liquid Stuart single swabs are preferred

Special Instructions

Specimens should be processed as soon as possible. If the specimen cannot be delivered to the laboratory within 1 hour it should be refrigerated to minimize overgrowth of contaminating organisms.

Testing Schedule

Days Performed: Monday through Sunday

 

Times Performed:

*  Set Up: All shifts, 24 hours a day

*  Cultures: Read on Day Shift only (0600 - 1430)

 

Turn-around Time:

*  Positive cultures are reported as soon as Staphylococcus aureus is detected

*  Negative or normal cultures will be final after 2 days; a preliminary report is filed on day 1
